The most frequently asked question prior to the trip was: "So, you guys gonna film this trip?" A legit question – travel documentaries are hugely popular in Germany. And Sabine and Oli are, after all, documentary filmmakers. The photo ist from Anselm Pahnke’s documentary "Anderswo. Allein in Afrika" (Elsewhere. Alone in Africa), about crossing the continent on a bicycle, which screened in Ludwigsburg and was moderated by Sabine. For months, Sabine and Oli mulled and debated the pros and cons, whether they really wanted to shlep the equipment needed to make a film later, or deal with the expenses, or cope with technological constraints. After all, the tour wasn't conceived for the purpose of making a film. On the other hand, the idea has charm ... maybe it's time to consider hiring a mule.
(A word from your intrepid vicarious blogger: As curator of Geislingen’s DokuFilmTage, a 4-day biannual documentary film festival, I was rooting for filming, of course. Stay tuned!)
