May 23, day 54, km 833: Onward
Distance to Kennedy Meadows, gateway to the Sierra: 247 km
Extended our stay in Hikertown for another night, a total of three. Weather isn't the only reason: we need to pick up the replacement camera at the Mojave PO, which unfortunately is closed on the weekend! And there's no way we could do 67 kilometers by 4 pm on Friday. So tomorrow, Friday, we'll head off, arriving in Mojave by Sunday, staying overnight, and going to the PO on Monday. We can resupply there and continue on, so as not to lose any more time. The good thing is the weather is supposed improve tomorrow! Albeit Sunday promises more rain and storm. A to-ing and fro-ing: apparently this is the coldest May hereabouts in ages. Normally, hikers fear this stage: no water for 27 km! Death Valley isn't very far ... (well, at least another 150 km away). We're already looking foward to the stretch on and alongside the viaduct in pleasant temperatures!
