Today the sun's shining, but it's still cool. We give our tent a bit more time to dry before heading off. It's about 65 km to Hikertown, a "ghost town" or a "set" just for hikers. We plan to spend the night there. We won't need to resupply there, since we should have enough food to last till Mojave (about 100 km).
After Hikertown, we head through the desert toward Mojave, along the Los Angeles viaduct. Because of the heat and the water situation, it's recommended to hike this bit during the night (20 miles, mostly straight on). Maybe we'll be lucky and the temperatures will remain pleasant.
Footwear:
Olli’s new Altra Trailrunners are causing problems: going downhill for longer spells creates pain in the front. Looks like he'll have to order another pair of his old favorites, Brooks Cascadia, in Hikertown. "Never change a winning team" - certainly not for 50 bucks!
Sabine's Lowas have developed a tear in the sole. To be on the safe side, she's ordered a new pair, to be sent to Hikertown. Let's hope they'll fit better ...
To complete the "kaputt" phase: In addition to camera and footwear, Sabine's glasses are in need of repair. If the repairs don't last, it'll be time for a replacement from Friedemann Sorg's "Sehblick" in Marbach.
