April 22, Day 23, kilometer 324

How funny: this morning we discovered the bear warning sign - at the lower end of the camping site. Because we arrived at the upper part last night, we didn't see it till this morning (see pic). Apparently no bears were around; the bread we'd left outside overnight remained untouched. Thanks to yesterday’s exertions, our breakfast was more sumptuous than usual. It took three courses before we were sated (see pics last row).

Today we hope we won't need our microspikes anymore: it’s going to be a slow downhill trek, about 30 km, from an altitude of 2700 meters to 300 meters, to Interstate 10.

(...) Today we passed the 200-mile mark and found a great place to make camp. We ate our Easter dinner under the stars: cheddar cheese and garlic flavored mashed potatoes; mixed vegetables made from dehydrated peas, peppers, carrots, tomatoes, and corn, courtesy of the Idyllwild "Hiker's Box.” Along with peppermint tea and chocolate-covered raisins for dessert. It was the mildest evening to date.
