Today SWOH set off for Idyllwild. The roughly 100-km tour will take them through the San Bernardino National Forest and Mount San Jacinto State Park. Because the San Jacinto Mountains are still largely covered with snow (the PCT reaches elevations of over 8800 feet) SWOH purchased microspikes in Warner Springs, which provide a better grip when hiking through snow and ice. At kilometer 62, SWOH have scheduled a brief detour to Paradise Valley Cafe, a mile from the trail, rumored to have the best hamburgers on the PCT. (Sounds like my favorite foodie Sabine’s got a reward lined up ...)
