94) July 1: Elk Lake

July 1, day 93

PCT: 3143 km

Total kilometers hiked: 1,428 km

Took a detour to Elk Lake today, about 2 km off trail, where we had a meal and bought some supplies – especially bread and cheese. Rain accompanied us part of the way.

At the restaurant, met up again with two hikers, Sarah and Jess, whom we’d last met many weeks ago in Hiker Heaven/Agua Dulce, California. They too had flipped the sierra, hiking southbound from Cascades Rock on the Oregon-Washington boundary, encountering a lot of snow as well, and were now taking a one-week time-out in Bend.

Unfortunately, the shop had no bread and cheese. The chef was kind enough to prepare something appropriate for us – albeit for a price (not cheap; the food has to be transported to the lake, after all). After a shower, we returned to the trail. We hope to reach three Sisters in 3 days, then resupply in Bend, where we’ll take a zero day to prepare for the last quarter of Oregon and its mosquitos. ;-)
